30-second answer

For an onward rail trip, take AREX from your ICN terminal to Seoul Station, then KTX to Busan Station. Book the two legs separately and allow time to move through Seoul Station with your bags. AREX does not continue to Busan.

If you want fewer luggage transfers, compare a direct airport bus to East Busan, Haeundae or Sasang. Match the stop to your hotel before choosing. A flight from ICN to Busan requires a qualifying international connection; ordinary domestic flight options may require travel to Gimpo Airport.

Start with your hotel's Korean address, arrival terminal and the time you expect to clear arrivals. Open KORAIL's English booking site and the airport's bus search before committing to either route.

Compare the complete journey to your hotel. A shorter train ride may involve more walking; a bus with fewer transfers may leave you farther from your accommodation.

By train: AREX to Seoul Station, then KTX

1. Reach the airport railroad after arrivals

After immigration, baggage collection and customs, follow signs for Airport Railroad / AREX. Both terminal stations have ticket facilities in the B1 Transportation Center. Confirm T1 or T2 on the ticket.

AREX service to Seoul StationPublished adult fareWhat you get
Express₩13,000Reserved seat; scheduled journey of 43 minutes from T1 or 51 minutes from T2
All-Stop from T1₩4,750 with a transit cardLower fare; intermediate stops
All-Stop from T2₩5,350 with a transit cardLower fare; intermediate stops

AREX publishes a ₩100 supplement and refundable ₩500 deposit for an adult single-use All-Stop card. The Express ticket is separate. Check the current Express fare, All-Stop fare table and next departure; these prices cover the airport-to-Seoul leg only.

2. Transfer inside Seoul Station

Leave the AREX platform and follow KTX / Train signs toward the main railway concourse. Follow the elevator signs if you cannot carry your bags on stairs. Find your train number on the departure board, then check its platform and carriage number against your ticket.

Our planning allowance is at least 30–45 minutes between AREX arrival and KTX departure, with more time for children, heavy luggage or mobility needs. This is an editorial buffer, not an official minimum connection. Immigration, baggage claim and the wait for AREX come before it.

Do not calculate a KTX booking from your flight's touchdown time alone. A delayed flight can leave you with a train ticket you cannot use. Check change and refund conditions before buying; waiting until you clear arrivals reduces that risk but may leave fewer seats to choose from.

3. Book Seoul → Busan on KORAIL

Select Seoul as the departure station and Busan as the arrival station in KORAIL. Choose your date, passenger count and train. Check the travel time, seat class, final fare and ticket conditions in the results.

Korea Tourism Organization uses about three hours as a broad Seoul–Busan KTX planning figure. Individual services differ; use the duration on your selected train. Add the airport leg, waiting, station transfer and your route from Busan Station to the hotel. KTO transport overview

Save your ticket offline with its train, carriage and seat numbers. A T-money balance does not replace a reserved KTX ticket. Keep your bags with you through the transfer and use the luggage space staff indicate, without blocking doors or aisles.

Gwangmyeong is another possible KTX connection

KTO also lists an airport-bus connection to Gwangmyeong Station, followed by KTX to Busan. Compare it when the bus departure and available KTX seat fit your arrival. Road traffic affects the first leg, so leave a margin before the train. Select Gwangmyeong as the KTX departure station if you choose this route; a Seoul departure ticket is a different booking.

Direct buses: choose the correct Busan stop

The Incheon Airport bus directory returned these routes on October 5, 2026. Search for Busan, then open the matching name. These are directory-listed fares and operating windows, not a quote for every coach class or a seat guarantee.

Directory routeListed stops after ICNListed fareT1 first / lastT2 first / last
EastBusanBusan Dongrae → East Busan₩70,00005:50 / 18:2505:30 / 18:05
HaeundaeEast Busan → Haeundae₩58,40006:30 / 23:5006:10 / 23:30
WestBusan(Sasang)Gumi → West Busan₩53,90007:00 / 17:4006:40 / 17:20

All times are Korea local time. The separate Haeundae route also serves East Busan; the dedicated EastBusan listing does not describe every possible departure to that stop.

The directory places all three at T1 1F stop 10. At T2 Transportation Center B1, it lists stop 4 for EastBusan and Haeundae, and stop 3 for WestBusan(Sasang). Follow your ticket and the live departure board if the assigned bay changes.

Book from the airport, not Incheon city

Use the airport directory's link to T-money intercity bus booking. Choose Incheon Airport T1 or T2 as the origin. A ticket from an Incheon city bus terminal does not start at the airport.

Check the exact destination, date, departure, coach class and total fare. If the website cannot complete your booking, take the destination name and hotel address to the airport bus ticket counter. Ask staff to confirm the arrival stop and expected journey time, including intermediate stops. Leave time to clear arrivals before the bus departs.

The directory does not provide a dependable end-to-end travel time in these route records. Check your selected service and allow for road delays. For a late bus, confirm that the hotel accepts your expected arrival time, which may be the following morning.

Flying to Busan: check the ticket before leaving the transfer area

Korean Air's Transit Exclusive Domestic Flight between ICN and Busan serves eligible international connecting passengers. The airline requires a single ticket with the international connection and does not sell the domestic segment separately. Passengers arriving from overseas complete immigration at the final destination under this transfer arrangement.

If you enter Korea at ICN, you cannot then board that transit-exclusive flight. Ask your airline or ticket issuer about your itinerary before departure. Follow the transfer instructions on your ticket rather than leaving for the public arrivals hall. Korean Air's rules

For a separate domestic flight from Gimpo (GMP) to Gimhae (PUS), include the airport change, check-in cutoff, baggage rules and the trip from Gimhae to your hotel. Use the ICN to Gimpo guide before treating a short flight as a quick connection.

Bags: decide where you need them next

If you plan to return through ICN, airport storage may save carrying a large suitcase on a short Busan visit. Compare the total storage charge and collection hours with the cost and time of returning to the airport.

If your next stop after Busan is Seoul, collecting a bag at ICN adds another airport trip. Consider asking your Seoul hotel about holding it, or taking it with you. Confirm acceptance before changing your route.

Use our ICN luggage-storage guide for T1 ZIMCARRY and T2 Hanjin counters, current published rates and multi-day restrictions. Keep medication, valuables and the clothes you need during the Busan visit with you.

Plan B for a late or disrupted arrival

  • Your flight is delayed: check the onward ticket's change conditions before its departure. Do not assume a separate rail or bus ticket moves with your flight.
  • KTX has no suitable seat: compare a later departure or a direct bus to the correct Busan stop. Check the hotel arrival time before paying.
  • The final workable service has gone: stay near ICN or near Seoul Station if you can still reach it. Book the next day's transport before leaving the airport.
  • You have an early international flight home from ICN: consider returning from Busan the previous day. Include weather, road delays and the airport's check-in deadline in your decision.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a direct train from Incheon Airport to Busan?

Use an airport-rail connection to Seoul Station and change to KTX for Busan. AREX ends at Seoul Station. Gwangmyeong offers another KTX connection if you reach it by a suitable airport bus.

Is the train or bus easier with luggage?

The direct bus can reduce transfers when its stop fits your destination. The rail route requires moving your bags between AREX and KTX, then onward from Busan Station. Compare that final leg before choosing.

Can I use the last AREX train to connect to Busan?

Only if a suitable onward train still runs and you can make the connection. Check the whole route on your date. The last airport-to-Seoul departure alone does not establish a usable ICN-to-Busan journey.

Does the Haeundae bus go to Busan Station?

The airport's Haeundae route lists East Busan and Haeundae after ICN. It does not list Busan railway station. Use the exact destination shown on your bus ticket.
